(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) July 7, 2008 –Inpop Records’ band Superchick made career history, posting its highest ever first week sales numbers. Consequently, Superchick claimed prime positioning on multiple retail and digital sales charts.
Nabbing the No. 2 position on Nielson SoundScan’s Top Christian Albums chart, Superchick’s June 24 release, Rock What You Got, sold nearly 10,000 copies its first week, the band’s most impressive sales debut to date. Trailing the No. 1 title by 12 scans, Superchick is thrilled with the turnout in support of its latest release.
“Next to my salvation and my wedding, this has been one of the greatest weeks of my life,” says bassist Matt Dally. “I look forward to seeing how the charts shape up in the weeks to come.”
Additionally, Rock What You Got ranked No. 2 on the SoundScan Adult Contemporary Christian Albums chart and No. 3 on its Digital Christian Albums chart. The title fared well by Billboard as well, coming in at No. 3 on its Top Christian/Gospel Albums chart and No. 65 on the Top 200 chart.
“This incredible first-week number is a true indication of Superchick’s status as one of Christian music’s top-selling and touring artists,” says Dale Bray, president of Inpop Records. “The band has worked relentlessly over its career and after 300,000 scans of Beauty From Pain, this is an amazing follow-up release and will cement its career for many years to come. It’s proof that true quality does rise to the top, and we look forward to a long sales history of what is sure to be an award-winning album.”
Superchick’s first album in three years, Rock What You Got finds the band honing a “rock-o-tronic” sound, an electro-punk mash-up of slashing guitars, pulsing keyboards and grit-pop vocals. While Superchick’s last album, Beauty From Pain, sought to empathize with listeners’ pain, band members have since walked their own dark, lonely roads with relationship splits and cancer touching four of their families. Rather than expound upon these personal hardships, Superchick turned Rock What You Got, produced by the band’s own Max Hsu (tobyMac, newsboys), into a battle cry to charge onward.
In support of the new album, Superchick’s current radio singles “Hold” and “Hey Hey” are top 20 at CHR and Rock respectively. The band will also kick off the “Rock What You Got” fall tour this September with special guests Stellar Kart, Article One and Starlit Platoon. For more information, visit www.superchickonline.com
Chicago-based Superchick comprises sisters Tricia Brock (vocals) and Melissa Brock (vocals, guitar), Matt Dally (bass, vocals), Dave Ghazarian (lead guitar, vocals), Brandon Estelle (drums, vocals), and Max Hsu (keyboards/DJ). With five projects to date, Superchick has sold upwards of 700,000 albums, and the group’s music has been heard in more than 70 different films and television shows. With literally hundreds of live performances on its resume, Superchick has developed a well-deserved reputation as an incandescent and charismatic pop/rock phenomenon.
Founded in 1999 by newsboys frontman Peter Furler, artist manager Wes Campbell and Inpop President Dale Bray, Inpop Records is home to a variety of artists including newsboys, Superchick, Tree63, Shane & Shane and Mat Kearney, among others. For more information, visit www.inpop.com.
